magnitude earthquake 3.8 in BUFFALO, New York ,strongest earthquake in 40 years

Early Monday morning, the Buffalo, New York, area was struck by the most powerful earthquake in 40 years. A 3.8-magnitude earthquake struck Buffalo, suburban New York, the USGS reports, at 6:15 a.m., at the center of the northeast tip of West Seneca. Mark Polonkarz spoke with Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for Erie County, Gregory J. Butcher told him the quake was felt as far north as Niagara Falls and as far south as Orchard Park.

The earthquake occurred about two kilometers east-northeast of West Seneca. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncars said on Twitter that it felt like a car had hit his home in Buffalo. He said there were no reports of damage yet in West Seneca, a Buffalo suburb near the US-Canada border.

He also added that he spoke with Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services in Erie County, Gregory J. Butcher told him the quake was felt as far north as Niagara Falls and as far south as Orchard Park.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown told WBN Radio that there were no reports of injuries yet.

Northeastern earthquakes are expected to occur all the time and can strike anywhere, anytime, said Yarb al-Taweel, a seismologist at the National Earthquake Information Center.
But Monday was the largest yet in the region since 1983, when there were 24 earthquakes above 2.5 on the Richter scale in western Seneca.

He also said that there is nothing abnormal about this shock and that it is normal.
There were 2.6 earthquakes in March 2022 and another 2 in 2020.
